Selkirk
Waterfront
An area of Selkirk, Manitoba that once bustled with the commerce
being carried out along the Red River will once again be full of
life, due to the assistance of the governments of Canada and Manitoba.
The Canada/Manitoba Economic Development Partnership Agreement (EDPA)
is contributing $1,086,000 to the Selkirk Waterfront Project. The
project will redevelop the area along the Red River between Eaton
Avenue and Dufferin Avenue (in Selkirk, Manitoba) with a plaza,
a terraced area with a stage and green space, opening it up for
public enjoyment.
Much
of the EDPA funding will go toward the tourism component of the
project. Each level of government is contributing $443,000 toward
the plaza and terrace areas as well as land and streetscaping. The
Province of Manitoba is also funding an additional $200,000 under
EDPA, toward infrastructure costs such as dike work, retaining walls
and street upgrades.
