13. -1859- Anson Northrup

Anson Northrup, a Mississippi boat owner, sailed his North Star riverboat up the Mississippi, then as far up the Crow River toward the Red River Valley. He and his crew took the boat apart and headed west. By the first of April 1859, Anson Northrop reached the Red River opposite the mouth of the Sheyenne River. He and his men built and launched the Anson Northrop steamboat, which sailed to Fort Abercrombie.
