Dedication of Sacred Heart wall

Life is about dreams, and hope, and courage. The courage to go on, even after we think we cannot. For those without faith, there is little room for dreaming or celebration. The great visionaries of Sacred Heart School, Frs. Klinkhammer and Merth, had the vision and determination to create a school that would bring together a family of faith in a spirit of learning and living in the Word. They taught us not to build our lives around Sacred Heart, but rather to include Sacred Heart in the building of our lives.

They were dreamers to look up to. They showed us that tough things could be handled in ways consistent with our faith. And because of them, we have a shared history we all love. They gave to us something important, and we are unafraid to say that they have touched our lives. They are standing above us now, applauding the small steps that have grown so proud. We were not
defeated. We, as never before, are all descendants of survivors, not victims.

With the Flood behind us, which was a little bit of heaven and a little bit of hell, our old memories are carefully stored in our hearts, and we will carry on the proud Sacred Heart tradition into the future. Having felt God's strength until the last brick was laid, we are stronger (Our new school will be our place of healing.*Taken from The Dedication of Sacred Heart School" p.70 by Bonnie Andrys)

With God's strength, the Building Campaign began in the fall of 1997. FEMA would fund 90% of the project and Sacred Heart would raise 10% or $1.3 million for a 114,000 square foot facility. Through the generosity of the supporters of Sacred Heart, the goal was reached and groundbreaking was May 21, 1998.

In recognition of all the supporters of Sacred Heart a tiled recognition wall was constructed. This wall consists of engraved tiles, which recognize contributors and photo tiles, which are actual photographs of the old Sacred Heart school. The wall is a significant and lasting addition to our completed facility. It is a visual masterpiece and a thank you to all the donors who believed in Sacred Heart.
