Beaver (Castor canadensis)

Beavers have large, paddle-like tails, which are used to slap the water to warn of danger. They also have large, orange front teeth used for gnawing down trees to build dams. Originally numerous along the Red River, beavers were hunted for their pelts and became scarce; however, their numbers have increased in recent years.
