Red Squirrel (Tamiasciurus hudsonicus)

Red squirrels are smaller than Gray Squirrels and their tails are less bushy. These animals are very noisy and announce intruders with harsh calls. Red Squirrels weigh only about a pound. They nests in trees, and are highly territorial. Instead of nuts, Red Squirrels eat seeds of pines, maples, basswoods, and elms. Photo courtesy of North Dakota Game and Fish
