Burdock (Arctium tomentosum)

The Common Burdock is an easily recognizable plant along the Red River. The basal (lower) leaves are very large and resemble those of the rhubarb plant. The flowers that appear in summer (usually around July) are pinkish purple. Come fall, the flowers turn brown and dry up. These dried flowers are commonly known as "cockleburs" and stick to clothing and fur.
